I'd use power steering fluid. Not that there might not be any problem with using trans fluid but I'm just thinking about if somehow the seals are not meant for use with trans fluid. May be trans fluid will cause them to swell or leak internally. Hopefully someone can help you out with this better than I can or has tried this with success

Some vehicles actually do specify ATF for the power steering. Most do not. Yes, they are both hydraulic fluids, but with different additive packages.

I'm a seal guy - I sell seals and gaskets for a living. As stated in the post above, my concern would be that the seals in the system might not be compatible with the ATF additives. Use the fluid recommended in the owners manual.
