Default 99 Suburban 5.7L dies

I own a 1999 suburban with a 5.7L, today for the first time it started it's problem. While driving down the road it died, after pulling over it will restart and run again. Also died at idle, but will always restart. Notice fuel pump in tank seems to be louder than normal and runs all the time. Not sure if it is normal for it to run all the time, did not notice this before. I am going to start by replacing the fuel filter and checking the fuel pump (saw a problem in a forum about a conection problem with the fuel pump). Any ideas of other things to check?

My 1999 did the samething. The fuel pump started getting louder and then one day it just quite. Better start planning to replace it. They are known for going bad. Good Luck, Dondobe

Default Dies While drivng

My suburban just dies while I am driving. The fuel pump is not making noise and I have had the fuel compression checked and it is fine. Any other ideas as to why it dies while i am driving.

Could be fuel pump or idle air control valve or any number of other possibilities. Have you read the codes with a reader? That's the first place to start.

I did read the codes it gave me a P0410. I am going to try replacing the air pump/smog pump and see if that helps.

I have a 99 5.7 also. Send I read somewhere that the fuel pumps do run all the time while the rig is running. Be careful not to break the plastic ports on top where the fuel lines connect to the pump with the crappy quick connects. If you do end up having to replace the pump, I would get rid of the quick connects and go with standard hose clamps. Good luck and enjoy. Mine has 252,000 on the original rig and motor.
