Default 99 Tahoe Fuel Pump Replacement

I just replaced my fuel pump and the vehicle is not starting. I know the pump was bad. There is about 5 gallons of Gas in the vehicle. Is there a fuse or relay that goes out when the pump does? I've been starting the truck when it won't turn over by hitting the tank with a rubber hammer ( while someone turns the key over). This has gotten me through till the pump finally dropped out. Can anyone suggest any options to take to get my vehicle running? Is there a vacuum issue I don't know about. thnx a mill!

Before I changed out the fuel pump. when the vehicle died on me. The gas gauge went all the way over to past full. After changing the fuel pump and new connector the guage still goes all the way past full when I try and start my truck.

Your input is greatly appreciated.

Have you checked to see that you actually have fuel pressure? Do you hear the fuel pump for a couple of seconds whenthe key is turned on and off?

I can't hear anything. I don't think there is any pressure. How do I build it up? ....

Double check the wiring connections, relays and fuses.

A quick way to check is to bypass the relay. Just use a jumper wire and see if that kicks the fuel pump on. If that works, the problem is either the relay or the wiring that triggers the relay. Use a test light to see if the coil of the relay is getting power. If it is, and you get the pump to work by bypassing the relay. You need a relay. If you're not getting power to the coil side of the relay, then you need to find out why...

The safest way to check a relay is to simply swap it out with one of the other circuits that uses the same type and see if that does the trick.

no power going to the relay. I replaced the harness on the fuel pump with the new connector. I guess I need to drop the tank back down and check the power supply to the pump. My only problem when connecting the new wiring was there were 2 black wires going to 2 black wires....no specific differences in the wires.....I hooked everything up correctly I thought.
