I would not change the abs pump without first seeing what dtc has set in the ebcm. Its common for a bad wheel speed sensor signal to cause the pump to activate.

Have you checked all your calipers to see if something is jammed there?

No I have not. I never even thought to do that since braking has been fine and I only hear the noise once I hit 5 mph. I drove around the block at low speed. Once I went over 5 mph, the cruch noise would happen the ABS light would come on. Then as I drove no other noises would sound.

I will get the computer and hook it up and see if I have acode anymore.

Sorry for the delay. I have not been around a computer. Yes it did have a code, but I don't remember what it was. I will have to see if I have it written down somewere.
I have not had a chance to hook up the computer again as my brother now has it. Once I get it back I will post if there is a code still. But since the 24th the light has not comeback on nor has it made any noise.

Hi Waterdowg, may be I am being silly, but another reason for the crunch sound is something wrong with the front differential, if it has worn bearings and stuck when on 4x4, before going to 4x2 it can make this sound and immediately the ABS light goes on and some time before it goes off. I suggest have the readings on a scanner before servicing anything.
Best regards,
Sergio

Hmmm... intersting thought. The issue starte back in June/July so I was not using 4wd. The sound and light has every time I drove the car from that point up until the 24th. At no time dis the light every not come on during that time.
Does this still sound like it could be a bearing? I have used 4wd and it seems to work fine.

I'm going going to service anything yet. The code reference back to a ABS. I will have to look for it.

Ok, I hope you can find the problem. On my burb, unfortunatelly this was the reason, I have changed the front differential oil and now I am using it on 4x2 until the new bearings arrive.

Do you have a cruch sound when you first start driving? If so does it go away? Mine seemed to happen right at the point the ABS pump would activatite. This the reason I suspected the pump.

so the crunch noise was not the abs pump activating correct? It will make a buzzing noise.
