Default ABS Module 2001 Suburban

The ABS module has gone out twice on my suburban. Once at 30,000 miles and now at 72,000 miles. I understand that I can safely drive the vehicle without the ABS and so I'm reluctant to pay the cost of repair, approximately $1,000.

When the module goes out, it creates a noise. I can disconnect the cable at the module to eliminate the noise but now my ABS light stays on.

Are there any other options, short cuts, or cheap fixes that I should consider without compromising safety?
