AC/DC question
No not the band. I need to check the amps going through a DC line, however it is going to have to be inline testing and I cannot cut the wire to "break" the circuit for the pin style connectors to a multimeter. Also, I do not want to puncture the shielding to do the test as I do not want to risk possible future corrosion. I have found a multimeter that has a claw type testing circuit that will go around the wire to check the current. However in looking at its uses it only states that it checks AC current no mention of DC, do you think I can still measure the amps in the DC line using it (I do believe that current is current regardless of type).?
ac voltage\current is a totally different ball game and cannot be measured the same way. If the clamp says only ac, then it won't work on a car. Here is one from snap-on that does both ac and dc. I am sure other companies make one similar for cheaper
