Default adding navigation to 08 suburban LTZ

need a little (or alot) of help....

I am looking to add an OEM factory or aftermarket Navigation system to my 08 Suburb LTZ, while at the same time keeping my Onstar, Bose, Rear Seat Entertainment, steering wheel controls... etc... etc.... and add backup camera and bluetooth.

Can someone point me out the best route to take. Would it be easier to go factory nav or go for better features with an aftermarket oem model?

Thanks in advance...

Shouldn't an LTZ already have the nav system with backup camera?

Bluetooth was not available in 2008. Started with the 2009 model.

The OEM nav system is worthless. I never use it.

Aftermarket is probably your best bet, but if you want an OEM head unit, I have one, and I'd let it go for cheap. PM me if you're interested.

I too have considered buying an OEM Nav unit. I have a LT2 with the lux pkg, no Nav. You say it's worthless. Why?

It's worthless because it's light-years behind compared to Google maps, or even a Garmin. Add in the fact that it's overly-lawyered, and many of the functions are disabled if the vehicle is moving or out of park. It doesn't have traffic, the presets are a PITA to set, and entering a destination takes forever. It's like texting using one of those old phones and only having the 0-9 keys. It's painful.

My android phone is much more intuitive, user-friendly, quicker, more accurate, and has many more features..

DO you have any suggestions for an aftermarket unit that would support bose sound system, rear entertainment, and Bluetooth... to include steering will functions?

Hi,

I did eventually install an aftermarket unit. Any head unit will work, the aftermarket harnesses are what keep these features. Use Pac RP5-GM31 to keep the Bose and steering wheel functions. The rear seat entertainment uses an additional harness (can remember the product number)....

My husband said he needs you to break it down a bit more. Can you give us examples of what will work, website links to products.

Found this...

Okay... the standard $15 wiring harness that you can get at Walmart won't let you retain features like warning chimes and steering wheel controls or work with the Bose amp... with these GM vehicles you need what's called a wiring interface (normal wiring harness on steroids lol). The interface you will need is made by Pac-Audio and the product number is RP5-GM31(see pic below)

If ordered from Pac this harness is nearly $300 but I have seen on ebay and Amazon for $100 and up which is probably your best bet.

Simply connect the interface harness wires to the aftermarket radio harness wire (match color to color) then connect the two plugs from the opposite side of the interface harness to the two plugs coming from the dash.

The Rear Seat Entertainment will require a completely different wiring harness of its own which is made by Pac- Audio part #GMRVD (see attached pic below)

Simply follow the instructions and plug this into the audio and video out inputs on the aftermarket radio and ground the small black wire attached (I used the a dash kit screw on the radio very simple) and plug the connector to the third plug coming from the dash.

Alot easier than it looks on my description...

Thank you for your help! Did you install a radio that allowed for Bluetooth connection? If so does it go through the onstar mic and speakers?
