Adding remote start to 99 Tahoe

Adding remote start to 99 Tahoe
I have a 99 Tahoe (350ci, 4x4, 4 door) I'm going to add remote start my self. Everthing I've read says I need to bypass module for the Passlock II.
I purchased one online. I'm reading the instructions and it says to match the resistance of the bypass module with the resistance of the key. Um... my key doesn't have a resistor.
Did I just buy something I don't need? DEI & Bulldog's website says I needed the bypass module, therefore I purchased one from DEI.

RE: Adding remote start to 99 Tahoe
I bought a #20402 from DEI. My remote start is only a remote start, no door unlock or alarm.
The #20402 is the Vats/Passlock/Transponder Universal Alarm Bypass Module.
Like I said, I don't have a resistor on my key. Instructions for the Passlock2 states: "ut your ohm meter probes on the two sliver resistance measuring pads through the opening shown in the drawing -- making good contact withthese two sliver pads on the board.
Do I need the bypass module?

RE: Adding remote start to 99 Tahoe
the meter thing is for VATS. The tahoe is passlockand you will need the bypass. Also make sure you energize the second ignition wire as well. Failure to do so can cause a check engine light and possible transmission failure if remote takeover is applied. I would send that piece back and get one of the above mentioned. They also require no key for bypass. Are you using the Valet remote start?

Per DEI's website.
1999 Chevrolet Tahoe
Category: Combo Interface
Required: No
Type: Data Bus
Part#: 1700G
Notes: Can use the 1700G or 457GW to bypass the Passlock II, but it will not control the door locks on this model year.
Alternates: 457GW
Category: Immobilizer Bypass
Required: Yes
Type: Passlock II
Part#: GMBP
Notes:
Alternates: PLJX, 556LW, 555LW, DesignTech 20402, DesignTech 29402
I have a Ready Remote 24921. Not the best out there, but I bought it brand new in the box for $15.00. Since the 21930 does not control the door locks, I don't need the combo units that you've mentioned. The 20402 should work for the Immobilizer Bypass. Right?!?!
BTW, thanks for the help.

RE: Adding remote start to 99 Tahoe
I've never used the DesignTech bypass' but according to the instructions it will work. Re-read pages 11 and 12 in the instructionsfor Passlock II. It seems pretty straight forward and tells you how to obtain the resistance value for your truck. Good Luck

RE: Adding remote start to 99 Tahoe
OK, it was my mistake. I read the instructions and it made sense after I found instructions on the internet that states Passlock II moved the resistor from the key onto the key cylinder and to measure the resistance there. Everything's good to go. Thanks for the help.
