Advice for engine swap
Hello all
just joined the forum and looking for advice. Just picked up an 08 suburban LTZ for a great price. The interior is near perfect and clean well taken care of by PO. Down side needs new engine. PO stuffed catastrophic engine failure and decided to let it go. I picked it up for $1400 with the intention of swapping motors. Body is in good condition some minor rust on the rear wheel well and rear lower lift gate other than that a good wash buff and wax will go a long way.
PO was a stand up guy had full details bought back in 2012 at 60k vehicle has 201k on dash.
looking at dealer price and market value good running truck ranges between 4500-7k. tires suspension brakes other items look newer. Underbody has minimal rust stains nothing of concern.
my question is swapping motors on this thing pretty easy? I’ve done a few euro/asian motor swaps but this will be my first American big suv. What should I look out for in the donor motor when purchasing and should I go with a low mileage used salvage motor or look for something rebuilt?
Any and all suggestions would be appreciated.
just an FYI this truck was for me but when the wife seen it she claimed it now I’m fixing for her so need to do this right for a happy life lol.
thanks

low mileage. Maybe pop the valve covers to see if oil was changed regularly. Avoid AFM engines (if that's even possible).
Jasper has good engines, but with 200k on the clock ,you're going to be looking for a new transmission soon too.
