Default Aftermarket Navigation unit. What's actually needed...

I've asked a lot of questions and looked things over again and again. Can anyone give me pointers including part numbers and from who type of information?

1. To keep the buttons on the steering wheel working whether it be for a Kenwood or any of the other aftermarket names. (I get lost when I get to the site it seems or there isn't enough information there to convince me I'm looking at the right part.)
2. If the aftermarket radio needs a new XM component assuming the factory XM won't hook to it, what is the model number and a price to expect to pay as well as a reliable supplier.

I've pretty much made up my mind to get the Kenwood since I already have a Garmin Nuvi and that's what's inside the Kenwood so I'd prefer to get that in the indash model. I asked last night in a couple different forums about repairs on a factory radio if you bought used and got no response so I decided new was best and that sort of makes the factory radio not an option.

Thanks... Guvner..

Guvner,

I posted a reply in this thread: https://chevroletforum.com/m_47086/tm.htm about what's all needed to install an aftermarket system in the 07 Tahoe. All the information I had was for a Pioneer install, I've never bought anything besides Pioneer, so I can't really help with the Kenwood stuff. The mounting kit and Onstar interface should definitely be the same for any aftermarket NAV install. For the steering wheel interface, it looks like the Kenwood needs the Peripheral # PESWIAKJC (about $55). You'll probably have to buy Kenwoods XM reciever, I haven't run across any factory satellite receivers that will interface with an aftermarket radio, but you can still use the factory mounted antenna. Hope this helps some, like I said, I'm more familiar with Pioneer products.

Thanks amilicia. I looked around pretty hard after your post. I think I see a light but not sure. I went and looked at the Kenwood and found the XM mini receiver and it looked like it had to be attached somewhere looking really tacky. Another link took me to a more integrated switch for it but that one was stamped no longer available. I guess I need to know if anyone has went with a kenwood and also XM Radio. You mentioned that the newXM Receiver will be able to use the factory XM Antenna. I presume that means that the factory antenna is somewhat universal.

Thanks... Guvner..

guvner,

I looked around Kenwood's site and it doesn't say anything about the in-dash nav system DNX7100 being XM ready. It does however say its Sirius ready. I would have to think that there isn't any built in support for the XM in that system. I'm running the Pioneer Avic-Z2 right now in my 06 F150 (waiting for my Tahoe to be built) and I have both the Sirius and XM modules for it. I got the XM because my employer offered to add me to their account for free, so I bought the module for $60 and added it. I listen to the Sirius probably 90% of the time, I personally like their content better, but everyone has their own opinions.

I just figured if it had one it had the other. I just got exposed to XM for the first time since I bought the Tahoe. I had put HD radios in all my vehicles and other then better sound there wasn't much in the way of new content anywhere. I really liked the comedy channels and would want at least Fox News so what is it about Sirius you like that XM lacks? What part numbers or which website can you collect them for the Sirius?

Thanks... Guvner..
