The foam that mates the air cleaner box to fender has started to deteriorate and breaking apart.

Has anyone ever done a fix for this, chevy says i would have to buy the whole box to get new foam.

 

Mine hasn't gotten bad yet, but it is something I notice and check when I have the hood up.... I haven't pulled the box out to appraise the ability to install new foam but I was considering something like this ->

 

I was thinking of using the black pipe foam to insulate plumbing pipes.

 

I don't wee why that wouldn't work as well, just have to deal with the curl of the material...depending on what the face of the air box looks like you might even be able to use gap filler foam..or backer rod, its the same material as the pipe wrap but is more in a rod shape....
