anti freeze smell

Default anti freeze smell

have 2001 sub. with 5.3 160,000 mi. starting to smell anti freeze after driving a while. i know there is a intake gasket problem, need to know if there is a quick fix and i need to know the right fix. can any one explain the problem or why it happens. any info will be a help.

There is no coolant in the intake on the 5.3 there for no leak. Most likely your water pump is leaking. The fix is to replace it (if that is the leak). I do not recommend a mechanic in a can ( stop leak) because it only works less than half of the time and it can cause other problems.
