Default any thoughts on synthetic oil and royal purple?

I just purchased an 07 Tahoe Z71 with 5.3l. it has 141k on it bu it runs like brand new and looks like it has been well taken care of.

I plan on using synthetic due to high mileage, would Royal Purple be even more beneficial (keeping cost of RP in mind). Anyone have any experience with RP in our Tahoes? any thoughts?

You have opened the proverbial can-o-worms asking about oils
Its going to come down to personal preference and what you are willing to spend over the life of the vehicle...

Its is a fact that synthetics help with over all MPG over the life of the vehicle...
Its is a fact that synthetics hold up better over time and in harsh environments...
I use and have always used Mobile 1 full synthetic in my 07 and in my previous 97 Tahoe...

100% agree with in2pro.

I would stick with Mobil 1 Full Synthetic. Its been around for a long time and always been the best to get. Plus, Advanced Auto, and Auto Zone, etc have it on sale often. They usually have Mobil 1 with a Puralator Gold, Mobil , and sometimes a Bosch oil filter.

I've been using Mobil1 full synthetic for 6 years on my '02 Tahoe, switching from the standard to high mileage along the way. I've never used the on-board oil change notification and stuck with 3k mile oil changes. As normal for many 5.3L from around that time, I'm burning about a quart of oil at 2,500 miles, even with full synthetic. I now have about 210k miles or so, and keeping to 3k mile oil changes. Walmart in CA has been selling the full synthetic 5-quart jugs of Mobil1 full synthetic for around $27 for a few years, so I occasionally buy two jugs, and keep keep the remaining for adding inbetween oil changes and next oil change. I've read plenty on Royal Purple as somewhat of a high performance oil--my Tahoe is completely stock and don't think I would benefit any in comparison to cost. I'll agree with others on preference and your commitment to cost. All that aside, Mobil1 has had a strong reputation over many years for their fully synthetic line.

Joe In NY brings up a good point about availability, you can find M1 just about anywhere if you need a quart on short notice.. where as the RP is more specialty....
And it is okay to mix dino and synthetic oils if you happen to be a quart low and all you can find is Penz 30 weight at the quickie mart...

I use Mobil 1 in the Suburban and wife's Equinox. It is readily available at almost any retailer.

Don't forget, racing oil is very different from consumer oil. It wears out much faster and stops lubricating sooner. Mobil 1 is good to 7K miles between oil changes. And I do it around that. The High Mileage Mobil 1 offer up to 14K miles but IDK. They have a great reputation and I would doubt that they would want us to harm our motors but, 14K miles is a bit of a stretch.

Also, what do you guys think of fords 5K miles between CONVENTIONAL oil changes?
