Default Arlington, TX GM Assembly Plant Tour from 2011 - Tahoe/Sub Birthplace

I stumbled on this Assembly Plant tour on YouTube. So cool; I've watched it about 4 times. First Class Ride built with Texas Pride.

Very cool! I had the good fortune to be able to visit the Detroit Hamtramck Assembly Plant awhile back where the Chevy Volt, Cadillac ELR, Impala and Malibu are assembled. If you ever get the opportunity to tour an assembly plant do it!
Also got to tour the engineering facility, it was very interesting as they have other makes of vehicles that they take apart (all auto manufactures do this) to see how other manufacturers use materials and manage assembly issues.
I.E. here is a picture of a Dodge truck engien being 3D modeled, what they look for is things like how cabling is routed for effective use of wiring, placement of sensors, if plastic or metal is used, how cooling lines are managed, all kinds things you'd likely never even thing needed to be considered in the assembly process. I saw BMW, Ford, Toyota and even GM vehicles being taking apart for evaluation.
I am hoping to get an opportunity to visit the Toyota assembly plant down in San Antonio some time...

Thanks for the pics. I would love to tour an auto assembly plant. I did get to tour the Everett, Washington plant where Boeing makes 747, 767, 777 and 787 planes. That was absolutely incredible although most of the tour you're on catwalks high above the production. Amazing how the pilots from various airlines show up, buy a tee shirt in the gift shop, take off with a Boeing pilot for essentially a "test drive", then leave with the plane to put it in service.

With this Arlington tour I was surprised how close the tram gets to the line. They were right next to the guys installing the engines. I searched youtube and found some other good videos. There's a good one of the Ford F-150 production which looked very similar to the Suburban/Tahoe line.
