Default Backup Camera endurance

I am going to be installing my backup camera this weekend (if the cable and pins from JP arrives) and just thought of something... I live in NY - we get snow. With snow comes salt and sand to provide traction. The back of the Tahoe is a major collection point for all of this wintry stuff (along with road dirt during the summer months).... How does the camera perform with the sand/salt/grunge and has anyone damaged their camera when trying to clean it???

Just wondering.
