Brake replacement
My 2001 Suburban has 112,000 miles and it now just is needing new brakes. Are there any DIY's on the pad replacement as well as the rotor replacement with pictures etc. I've done brakes on cars in the past but would like to make sure there are no "suprises" this weekend when I tacke the project. Also, my brake light and antilock brake lights on the dash are on together sometimes and sometimes not. I was told that this is usually a corrosion problem that can be fixed by cleaning some contacts? This has been going on for a few years and now finally getting around to do something about it. Anyone had this happen and successfully fixed the issue?
It's fairly straight forward with the replacements. Follow the advice on cleaning everything out in there. Just take the caliper off with, I think, some 18mm sockets (they should have some loctite so it'll be hard). Then grease the metal contacts with caliper grease and put a hefty amount onto the bolts/guides that the caliper rides on/slips into. I would recommend changing out all the accessories with the brakes. By this I mean that you should also get the correct "brake hardware kit" from the autoparts store. Don't got to Advance Autoparts because they don't have the right kit and don't know which kit fits your truck (or at least this is what I have experienced). While you're there check your hub assembly. You should clean the hub assembly and it's connection as well. This assembly deals with your abs.
