Default Breaklight problem 2000 chevy tahoe z71
my breaklights go on when i first apply the break but then they go out

Welcome to the forum...
so the brake lights go out even though the brake pedal is applied?
Might want to check the switch at the top of the brake pedal, it could be loose or broken...
