burning wires

Default burning wires

the positive battery cable thats connected to the alternator burns or melts the little red box that its encased in. anybody know why or have this problem ?

Probably a short. You might have a bad alternator as a possible cause.

was thinking short. was happing before with a different alternator.

Loose or corroded connectors/wires will also create heat that can melt the plastic. Check the cable where it attaches to the connector for broken wire strands or corrosion.

thanks, will be my first point of attack. whats that box called, they are hard to find and like $30 from the dealer.
