Default Buying a Used 2007-2010 Tahoe or Suburban

I'm interested in purchasing a used Tahoe or Suburban. I like the '07 body style. Any helpful hints, issues, problem years, things to look out for, etc. would be greatly appreciated. I have previously owned an '03 Suburban and an '04 Avalanche.

First, welcome to Chevrolet Forum!!!

Search the many pages of this forum and you will find the answers to the questions you ask. You will find that the vehicles that you are looking at has problems associated with the AFM system, having excessive oil consumption, stabilitrak system problems, premature battery drain, cracked dashes, striped power mirror gears, clunking downshifting transmissions while stopped just to name a few.

Now take this with a helping heap of salt for not ALL '07-'10 Burbs/Hoes had these problems. Remember, the great and many members on this forum are only a very small percentage of all Burb/Tahoe owners and not all owners post on forums like this, so the true number of Burb/Tahoes that have had any of these problems is unknown. I was one of the lucky one's with my '07 Tahoe for I never experienced ANY of these well known and well documented issues. I currently have a '13 Tahoe and, knock on wood, I, with continued maintenance similar to that I did on my '07, I expect to have many many miles of enjoyable trouble-free driving.

Best of luck in your search!!

thank you for the reply. This forum has a tremendous amount of information. The AFM issues are really bothering me. I think I might limit my search now to a 2500 or a Yukon with the non AFM 6.2L engine. Minus the AFM issue does the 6.2L Yukon share the other issues mentioned? I'm concerned about the transmission problem. Thanks

You'll notice both of my GMT900 trucks have non-AFM engines.

I'd stay away from the '07 models (first year for the platform). Besides, the '07 2500 Suburban only has a 4-speed transmission. '08 was the first year for the 6-speed, and that makes a big difference, especially if you plan to tow.

The 6.2 is a great engine (all aluminum), but the 6.0 would probably last longer (iron block). I have 150k on my '08 Burb, and EVERYTHING runs perfectly, just like the day she rolled out of the factory. Last two years I've spent a total of $20 on unscheduled maintenance/repairs (purge solenoid).
I'm not aware of the transmissions being that big of an issue. I have the 6L90 in my Burb, and the 6L80 in the Sierra. Both run flawlessly.
I love driving the Denali; it's basically GM's hot-rod pickup truck. The acceleration is awesome, even frightening, for a 5500-lb truck.
Your only choice for the Avalanche is the 5.3, unless you want to go with a Cadillac EXT. All the Caddies (EXT, ESV, Escalade) have the 6.2. I decided against them because they're just too flashy.
It may or not be a negative for you, but all the Denalis and Caddies have AWD. There's no option for a shiftable, 2-speed transfer case 4wd system.
