Question A/C Compressor for Tahoe

I've got a 2002 Tahoe and need to replace the compressor. My 'hoe has the rear a/c. Can I use a compressor and & accumulator that don't have rear a/c? I'm not too sure what the difference is between them. I never use the rear a/c so not sure if it can just be bypassed or not. I've got a hook up on a brand new compressor and accumulator w/o rear a/c so if I could use these it would definitely help on the $$$. Any help appreciated! Thanks!

Welcome to the forum.

I thought they all had rear air. The only difference in compressors might be the displacement w/ the rear unit having slightly more. A non-rear air compr. might not cool as well if you had the rear air on. But since you said you didn't use the rear air, probably OK to use the front only unit. Why are you replacing the accumulator?

Thanks. Replacing the accumulator because the shops that gave me quotes said it would need to be done. They said the compressor is coming apart and there could be junk in the accumulator now. Are they pulling a fast one on me? Thanks.

No, that's pretty standard when the compressor lunches itself. I didn't gather from your first post that's what happened.

emllgn will you be doing all the work yourself and if so do you have the equipment to evacuate the system?

reason I ask as I have read where folks have used the equipment that Harbor Freight sells and have had very good results.... i.e. $99 vacuum pump...
