Can someone please tell me what this switch is?

Default Not Aftermarket

It is definitely not aftermarket. Kind of an odd placement, but real. Here is another example from eBay (yes, it is eBay - so take it with a grain of salt), but the description is:
"This overhead console came out of a 2005 GMC Yukon Denali. The overhead console is in excellent condition and neutral in color. The console includes the sunroof switch, rear HVAC controls, Homelink controls, Onstar Microphone, and map lights as pictured. It will fit 2002-2006 Cadillac Escalade as well as 2003-2006 Silverado/Sierra/Tahoe/Yukon/Suburban vehicles."

I think its for roof mounted lights, maybe a police/ranger option, i remember reading about it in the owners manual (just skimmed through it a week ago).

Is there anything out on the roof like a plugged hole or rubber grommet?

No, I did look. There is a sun roof.

I like the mic idea, but I still don't understand why it slides and feels like a switch. Can't be that important.

I wold also like to know what is this. Yesterday I have tried to take the console, but after removing the only screw it has on it, I was unable to remove it, even pushing to the front or back or pulling it down.

if you look at the ebay listing it has two very small wires going to it. Its a mic, not a switch... Or maybe even the temp sensor for the Auto climate control if your burb was equipped with it.

Thank you for the information Joe. But it looks as an aftermarkt thing, well it is as I always say: "There are things that only GM make for you!" :-)

It is not a switch. It is the mic for the On-Star system
