Default Canadian Factory Suburbans ?

Can you guys tell me if 1998 Suburbans were made in Canada ?
I'm thinking of looking at one here in the UK which is right hand drive !
It is badged as a Chevy even though I thought the only factory right hand drive vehicles were badged as Holdens for the Australian market (Australian Holden Suburbans have a Blazer dash as lots of Blazers were made right hand drive).
This one I've seen is badged as a Chevy and the seller says it is a Canadian factory conversion.
Suburbans have never been 'officially' sold in the UK so I do not know where the car was originally destined for unless a UK buyer bought direct as Suburbans are not in our dealerships..
Cheers.

short answer, Yes.

I called pops and he said that he doubted it would be a conversion, but likely built in canada.

I don't know how ya'all live without gobs and gobs of gas sucking suv's over there... I know petro is $$$$ for ya'all but still...

Checking the first digit of the VIN will give you the country where the vehicle was made. For Canada, the first digit will be a "2"

Be careful with a RHD version, I have a RHD Blazer/S10 it is very difficult to get parts, especially suspension, headlights and any RHD specialities. On the Blazer everything under the hood except the engine has been swapped left and right, the heating system is also mirror image. Parts for mine can be obtained from New Zealand I have since found.
Hope this helps you

Thanks for the info guys.
I'm a bit put off by the parts issue so I may hold out for a different vehicle. I was only interested in RHD as that is all my wife will drive !
I personally do prefer LHD even though we drive on the left, I find it more comfortable.
'Rushphoto'- As for your issue with the RHD Blazer, why is there a problem with this particular vehicle as I thought the Blazer was an 'official' UK spec Chevy vehicle straight from the showroom therefore are parts not easily available in the UK ?
'hicksvilleshick'- Yes, petrol is very expensive (well, the TAX on it is) but we all have our vices, whether that be drugs, beer or women, mine is petrol and American cars ! I do a limited amount of miles and also ride a Motorbike, I'm also away from home quite regularly as I'm a truck driver so fuel for the V8's doesn't leave me needing to remortgage !

Hi,
The RHD Blazer was only imported for I think 3 years and was sold via Vauxhall dealers, who no longer support these. We no longer have Chevy dealers here (apart from those who sell the new type cars and don't want to know about the Blazers) parts therefore are very difficult to obtain for the RHD versions. There are many parts that are unique to the RHD, for instance I needed a steering linkage, these are no longer available new and are different to LHD ones, ended up getting a rebuilt one from New Zealand. RHD headlamps are almost unavailable, even the heater matrix is a reversed version of the LHD versions. There are a few Blazers being broken, but thats getting rarer. Parts for LHD versions are easier via ebay or specialist US parts dealers in England, I use US Autos in Bedford. Despite all this I do enjoy driving the Blazer.
