Check to have a muffler shop weld in a universal one -unless you're in California....

My 1998 Frontier had its converter unbolted and stolen in my driveway (Arizona, thief left the 4 bolts and nuts), and I bolted in a replacement, no codes. My 2004 Frontier had its converter sawed off before I bought it, that owner had a universal converter welded in, no codes.

If vehicle has CA emissions, then only factory or CARB approved cats work long term. Been there on my brother's Impala that he let a local grease monkey change the cat. The put a cheap non GM cat in. Every few weeks it would trip the P420 like clockwork.
