My 97 Burb has developed a fault when starting from cold. It will not start at all unless i either drop some gas in to the air intake or blank off the air intake.
It runs fine once started and starts up again from warm no problem. I assume its down to a engine temp sensor somewhere but have no idea where it might be located.

 

Check the fuel pressure.

 

Wouldnt a fuel pressure problem effect it all the time. It starts fine from warm and it will run WOT no problem.

 

Needs more fuel to start a cold engine

could be injectors and regulator but you have to eliminate fuel pressure first as that will eliminate fuel pump, that and checking the fuel pressure is the easier part of the process...

 

I had an IROC-Z that would start fine but took a lot of accelerator finesse to get it rolling. Once at 30 mph, it would run fine. Problem: bad fuel pump.

Moral: bad fuel pumps can manifest themselves in a variety of ways. A simple pressure check will tell you. Gauge is only about $40.

Are we not overcomplicating this, it had a new fuel pump about 6 months ago and as I say once its running its fine and once its warm it stats no problem.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o>

over complicating is shot gunning sensors at random... we all focused on a methodical plan of troubleshooting by eliminating most likely causes.
Sure we could be wrong but if you take it to the dealer its a pretty good chance the first thing they are going to check is...codes, real time data from a scanner and ....fuel pressure.

the pump may be brand new but they do go south and by checking it you will know its not the problem
