Compressor finally went on me last night
well its been running a lot more than it used to for the past week or so...used to run for about 6 sec. then it was like around 30 sec and yesterday the wife said the Dash said service suspension system. so when she got home i went out to check it out and sure enough there was no sound at all. I planned on redoing all 4 corners anyway. got the shocks already, just waiting for the weather. and now i have to pick up a compressor (might as well have anyway, right?) i see them going for ~ $200 but i found one on ebay for ~$90. any takes on going the cheaper route. it says it's new and comes with a 1 yr warranty.

might be worth a try. SEAL IT UP BEFORE INSTALLING!!!!! Take the motor housing off and seal the gasket with RTV, take the end plate off, spray some lube oil in, and Seal the End Plate with RTV, there is NO seal on the end plate! And, Seal the wire entrance with Marine Heat Shrink.
Bought a compressor from Arnott and it died 13 months later... Because it was rusted! I guess they dont take into account bad weather, backing into lakes, etc... They discounted the new compressor from the $180 or so to about $130, eased the pain a bit, but sealed the new one real good...

You can take a bit of a sledge hammer approach by getting this kit...

If your ride is like mine, the shocks are at about 90,000 miles and not far from needing replaced, anyways. For me, you can even hear the compressor in the back sputtering now and then...It is still working, but I think it is not far from done!

Yeah. I really think $200 for a cheesy compressor is a little ridiculous! You can get an a/c compressor for less than that. Could I just use parts from a $20 air horn compressor to rebuild it? Speaking of which, why aren't there any rebuild kits for it? All it is is a simple motor and piston

Well the things that the shocks fill and empty via the compressor. It has an electronic 2-way valve for filling, hold, and discharge. You could use a cheap compressor but would have to make the special fitting that GM uses, and get an electronic release valve so the car can dump the air out of the shocks...

No, that motor its self will burn out due to over running and getting too hot. For us it rusted up the brush assemblies. I was able to get it running but it wasn't all that happy and wouldn't turn over on its own always...
