Converting AWD to 2WD/4WD
I have a 2005 Suburban with 4.10 gears, where the front differential is blown. The transfer case is always in 4WD/AWD and can go into 4LO.
I disconnected the front driveshaft so it could still run in two wheel drive for the summer until I can get the differential fixed.
Turns out the transfer case has a 60/40 split where it relies on the front diff, but if I run it in 4LO I can move around where in 4HI I can’t.
It got me thinking, I need to replace/rebuild the front diff, but I’d rather have 2WD and 4WD.
In theory, if I replace the transfer case and the control in the cab, then it should work. The only unknown is if the length of the driveshafts, and also if the computer needs to be reprogrammed or edited.
Anyone have ideas or insight?
Ill have to keep my eyes out for a transfer case.
thank you in advance!
