Default Coolant Temp Location

I have a 2002 Tahoe Z71 with a 5.3 engine. I am looking for the location of the coolant temp sensor. The temp guage fluctuates as if there is a short in the wire. When this (fluctuation) is going on the Tahoe surges. When the temp guage goes back to normal - the surging has stopped. I want to run down the wire from the coolant sensor to the dash guage. Open to any other ideas... Thanks for the help!

I'd recommend spending 15- 20 bucks and get Yourself a Haynes or Chiltons Manual on Your Vehicle. It'll save You alot of headaches down the road.

Some public libraries carry copies of service manuals.
