Default Cracked heads 2005 Tahoe

I brought my 2005 Tahoe z71 to dealer today for losing excessive coolant problem. I suspected an internal leak due to no leaking coolant puddles in driveway and yes indeed the dealership confirmed today my heads are cracked and to replace them both will be $2700 (parts and labor) They said roughly 15hr job @ $89/hr. My question is with 138,000 miles on this engine, would it be smart maybe to throw a rebuilt engine or even a low mileage used engine in for half the price? What would be the going price to pull my old engine out and install an engine? Thanks for any input.

Seems a little high unless they are using new head assys w/ valves, springs, etc. Might be cheaper to get some used heads and have them reconditioned w/ your valves, etc. Just a thought.

There was a problem with some heads on those engines, if you install a used engine you could end up witth the same problem.
