Default Crank sensor issue/emergency

Hey everyone, new to the forums, familiar with the rules and have been searching for a few days on several forums with no solid results.

I have a 2000 Suburban 5.3 2wd 1500, and just recently it has started to randomly die. I have run a scanner and continue to get code P0336/Crankshaft position. As of yesterday, the sensor was replaced and it was fine for the full day. Took it out today, and on my way home, tachometer was bouncing between idle and 2k rpms with no acceleration, heavy sputtering, and finally died. While rolling, I placed it in neutral, and it started up with no problem, but as soon as I touched the gas pedal, it died again and rolled into my driveway. I scanned it again, and its showing the Crank sensor yet again. I have checked and double checked the wiring and the plug, and both are fine. No other codes are showing stored or pending. Truck has 251k miles on it, and was running like a champ about 2 weeks ago. Today after it finally died the last time, it is refusing to start again, only showing the p0336 code.

Any input would be great. I though possibly the reluctor wheel may have shimmied out of place, but after building a few LS1/LS6's, this would be kind of difficult to do, but still possible. Engine has not made any odd sounds. I have checked fuel pressure, alternator and battery condition, and grounds and found nothing out of place. Has a new MAF, plugs/wires.

Any suggestions? Or just time to replace/rebuild the block?

What brand of CPS did you install? I have no experience with the Chevy...but...on the JEEP Cherokee, aftermarket CPS are notorious for lousy reliability and out-of-box failures....

Its a Duralast. I have also had new parts fail, went earlier and had the one I purchased yesterday swapped for another to see if that would eliminate the issue and still the same problem.

Quick update. Truck has been sitting for a while now, and it fired right up, idled fine for 5-7 minutes, drove it to the end of my street, turned around and it started with the sputtering and died again at the end of my driveway. My street is less than 1/8mi long. Same code for the crank sensor.

I have removed the intake cover, checked vacuum lines, and tomorrow will be swapping the tps just to check it, and possibly the fuel pump simply cause I have one laying around anyway.

But the fact that its still giving me the p0336 has me thinking something is physically wrong with the block/crank. But still taking any suggestions and input before yanking everything out.

have you inspected the reluctor ring for proper mounting and its condition ???
then I would start testing the wiring checking for a short/open and then the pcm...

I would hope GM techs mounted it properly, this engine has never been opened or removed. No it has not been inspected as this just started happening the other day, but guess its time to grab a bore scope. I have already tested/checked wiring, but I have not tested the PCM.

Anyone else have any other ideas or thoughts before I order a new engine?
