Going to trade my new hb in for another (maybe it is defective) and hope that fixes the problem. I'd rather not take out the seal or use the repair sleeve if I don't definitely have to. Assuming it's not my hb what are my options to try and nail this problem down?

Be sure to use a balancer puller. Don't pull on the outer ring.

....And use a dampener installation tool, which means not a hammer.

And be sure you get the tool screwed all the way in to the crank to prevent pulling out the threads.

Agreed on all that. To remove I've got the puller and to put it on I just torque it down with an impact.

Only if you want to take a big chance of pulling the threads out of the crank and being up the creek. Use a harmonic dampener install tool, places like AutoZone have it in their free loaner tool program. Or, you could borrow mine, but it probably wouldn't be worth the gas money going to and fro.

I hardly ever use an impact to install anything except spinning down lug nuts, then torque 'em w/ torque wrench. Just too big a chance on either stripping or twisting off.

Maybe I should clarify. I don't drive it home. I use the lowest setting and slowly just pulse it. I didn't know there was a tool butt I will definitely inquire about it tomorrow. Thanks for feedback too fellows, it is greatly appreciated!
