Cylinder miss on 8

Cylinder miss on 8
Hi and thanks in advance for any help.
I have a 1997 Suburban it is throwing codes for a miss and cat. I think the one for the cat is from the miss.
I would change parts except that a lot of the time when turning left it makes a PHEWWW sound like compression is getting past a plug or something. and it gets real hard to turn.
any ideas?
