Default Dead Battery

I have a '07 Tahoe LT2, purchased in Sept. 07, mileage now about 13000. Three times since we have had it, the battery has died for no apparent reason. You go out in the morning to crank it up, and nothing - no interior lights or anything else. I have put a charger on it for an hour, and then it is fine. Before I take it in for service and they can't duplicate the problem, I wanted to check and see if this has been a problem and how I should address it at the dealership. Do any of you kind folks have any info?

Vehicle cranks but will not start.[/align][align=left]•
Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) B1516-Battery Current Sensor Performance Signal Invalid. [/align][align=left]
Cause
This condition may be caused by the Body Control Module (BCM) calibrations that create a lower battery state of charge than intended in low electrical power usage modes.
Correction
Important: Verify that the 12-volt battery has a battery charge of 12 to 16 volts. The battery must be able to maintain a charge during programming. Only use approved Midtronics 165-PCS charger or equivalent to maintain proper battery voltage during programming. The J2534 MDI will reprogram the modules in less time than the Tech 2® scan tool.
A revised calibration has been developed to address these conditions. Technicians are to reprogram the BCM using the latest software available on TIS2WEB. Refer to the Body Control Module Programming and Setup procedure in SI. [/align][/align]

This bulletin is being revised to include the 2009 model year. Please discard Corporate Bulletin Number 07-06-03-002A (Section 06 - Engine/Propulsion System).

The purpose of this bulletin is to emphasize the importance of performing a thorough Pre-Delivery Inspection (PDI). Special focus is needed to ensure that the battery cable bolts, clamps and nuts are installed properly from the assembly plant.
Open the hood and inspect the vehicle battery top posts at the positive and negative battery cable clamps.



Both the positive and negative battery top posts should exceed 1mm (0.04in) to 2mm (0.08in) above the battery cable clamps (1) to be installed properly as shown in the graphic above.
Visually inspect and wiggle the positive and negative battery cables, while performing the following inspections:[align=left]•
Inspect to see if the battery cable clamps are loose or not properly seated.[/align][align=left]
Important: The battery cable clamps may be crooked or not pushed down far enough onto the battery posts. [/align]
[align=left]•
Inspect to see if the battery cable nuts are installed and tightened properly at the battery.[/align][align=left]•
Make sure that the battery cable bolts are not cracked, broken or cross-threaded.[/align][align=left]
Important:An overtightened nut may cause the battery clamp bolt to break. [/align]
[ol]If the battery clamps, bolts or nuts are found to be loose or not installed properly, disconnect the negative battery cable first. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in SI.
Loosen and reposition any crooked battery cable clamps.
Important:The battery cable bolts and nuts are not currently serviced separately from the battery cable. See your parts department to determine the specific battery cable needed for your vehicle.
Obtain a new battery cable and perform any repairs to the battery clamps, bolts and nuts.
[color=brown]Important:Always connect the positive battery cable first, then the negative battery cable last.
Connect the battery cables. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in SI.
Tighten the battery clamp nuts.
Tighten
Tighten the battery clamp nuts to 5N·m (44lbin).[/ol][/align]

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.
[/align][align=left][/align][align=left]Condition/Concern:
Some owners may comment of an intermittent no crank and/or dead battery. This concern could be caused by a loose connection at the 175 Amp Mega Fuse located on the passenger side of the cowl, as shown below. GM Engineering has found that over time the mega fuse to cable nuts may relax causing a poor connection. A poor connection at this fuse can either cause the battery not to charge while the vehicle is running and/or no power to the UBEC or Starter when trying to crank the vehicle. In either case, the end result may be a no crank concern.



Recommendation/Instructions:
Remove the Mega Fuse nuts and inspect the fuse, cables, nuts and holder for corrosion, arcing, or signs of overheating. Replace any damaged components and torque the mega fuse nuts to the updated specifications listed in SI.[/align][/align]

This condition may be due to poor battery cable connections. Cross-threaded/stripped battery cable bolts inside the battery side post terminals may cause poor battery cable connections.
Correction

Clean the threads in the battery side post terminals using a 3/8" (#16) NC bottom tap.[/align][align=left]•
Replace the battery cable bolt.[/align][align=left]The battery cable bolt is serviced separately from the cable and is available from your Parts Department. Be sure to use the correct bolt.[/align]

Had the exact same problem. Started the day I took delivery. Dealer ended up replacing with heavier duty battery after battery failed tests. No troubles since.

That's used for testing amp draw on the entire vehicle. Most meters will only allow 10amps before it pops the fuse. Most vehicles pull more than 10amps untill things start going to sleep. Putting the battery d\c on allows you to let everything go to sleep, put your ampmeter on either side of the d\c, then d\c the battery. Now all the amperage is running through the meter, and you don't fry the meter trying to get to that point

Thanks for all the responses - I think I'll go ahead and get the dealer to do the reprogram as mentioned by Shawnvw, and see what happens from there...This forum is great!
