Default Dealer Oil Choice - Interesting

I have the free oil changes for a bit longer, so go to the dealer for my routine oil changes, 3,000 mile interval. I asked a few questions on what they are using for oil and was interested in the answer.

I assumed they were using Dexos synthetic blend 5W30 in my 2010. They said no, they are using conventional 5W30 since the Dexos spec didn't happen until the 2011 model year. It really surprised me, for the couple bucks in cost difference to them I just assumed they would put the blend in all of them. As far a I know there's no mechanical changes from 2010 to 2011 but they choose to use different oil for each?

They are a good dealer, said I can request the dexos blend if I want. Anyway, I thought people might be interested to hear this.
