hey guys, what I have is a 2005 Suburban LT 5.3 4l60e ect. 129,200 miles. When I fill it up completely is used to shoe about 480 miles to a tank on the "range" readout in the cluster.

We recently bought a 25' Pontoon boat, and I've pulled it to the lake twice. Once, last wednesday and then yesterday. The lake is about an hour and twenty minutes away. Lots of hills in Jasper tx. So a lot of times up hill i have to floor it to stay at 65-70. On flat land it pulls nice.

Now, the range readout only shows 287 miles to a full tank. At $105 dollars a tank lol. The mileage in the cluster says its getting about 15.3 mpg, which hasnt changed much since before pulling the boat. But, today I put 27 gallons in it, and the range readout said 287 miles full tank. So I divided 287 by 27 and thats only a tad over 10 mpg! I reset the mileage odometer to 0.0 when I filled up, so I'd like to see how many actual miles we went on normal driving when its empty.

What I need to know is this. Will the "range" readout EVER go back up after normal driving without a boat? Because in between last wednesday and yesterday, it never did. I cant afford to pay over $100 a tank and only get 287 miles on normal driving. Thanks for any input!

I don't know what the readout would have to do with actual mileage you get per gallon. Will it reset to read actual with or without the boat. I'd think so. Best advice I can give is actually calculate MPG manually, with, and without pulling the boat. Every new company truck I get, with my driving (especially remote) thats the first thing I do is calculate MPG.

Welcome to the forum.

The range is based upon the average mpg, so reset it at fillup. After it has a new mpg on the full tank, the range will be more or less accurate. It will vary w/ the average mpg.

I think a reset will help although you cant reset the range, I would reset fuel used and avg mpg while at the gas station. Fill up and tow and that should give you a valid reading. Not sure why your range dropped. I have a 2006 with the 8.1 and I never got a range of 480 on a full tank I get about 405 actual and its pretty accurate. I dont think the range on the DIC ever went past 380 I would love to see an MPG of 15.3 BTw what is the weight of the rig?

Nope, never. I towed a boat once and got 3 MPG, and I'm still stuck at 3MPG all the time! Even when the car is in park! the range says "20"... so I only go to the gas station and back with it...
