Diesel Suburban in the Future?

If they keep the full-size SUVs, they'll probably have to in order to meet the MPG req'ts.
For example my four ton RV has a 3.0L turbo V6 M-B diesel and got 19.4 mpg @ 65 mph on a round trip to Santa Fe, NM recently.

I wouldnt hold your breath. There have been rumors for about 10 years of a diesel half ton pick-up. Just now is it getting worked on by Cummins. Diesels are alot heavier then a gas motor, so then you need to mess with the suspention. Now you need the DPF, the EGR, the SCR, the DEF just to make emissions. It's a heck of a lot of work...
But I cant wait till they start, I'll be one of the first in line

I believe its a matter of consumer demand as to whether or not GM adds a diesel engine as a powertrain option. The engine/drivetrain is already available as found in the Silverado/Sierra 2500HD+ trucks and could be easily fitted to the Tahoe/Suburban chassis. With today's diesel fuel cost being more than gas prices, the demand for diesel powered vehicles in general is not there. In my area, I see very very few diesel powered trucks.
