Tahoe & SuburbanThe power, space, and brutal towing ability make the Tahoe and its longer sibling, the Suburban, arguably the best full size SUV's on the market today.
I and determined to buy a Chevy Tahoe of pretty much any package that doesn't have a sunroof. I'm an amateur radio operator and a sunroof gets in the way of mounting antennas. Without a side though, I've been looking at CarMax and noticing that they are still selling 2019 models for about $40K with anywhere from 50-80k miles. That seems rather high to me. Do Tahoes hold their value and at what mileage should one avoid purchasing a used model? CarMax does a good job of detailing and doing mechanical work necessary to bring cars pretty much up to spec. I had another brand of SUV from 2003 and put 166k on it before it was totaled. But I don't want to buy the same brand. I want a Tahoe I just don't want to spend $75k for a new one. If it doesn't violate the rules of the forum, is there another place I should be looking to purchase that actually has some price flexibility? CarMax is known as being a no-haggle dealership and they're located throughout the country. Their newest gig is charging $2,000 to bring a vehicle from the east coast to the West Coast when I know based on research it only cost them $500. I don't want to get sucked into something like that. General advice is welcome. I've been looking at the different packages and it would help you to know that I live in the mountains where seasonal snow and rain start right about the end of october. We get snow! I need a vehicle that's got true 4WD and not AWD. Again, no sunroof. What would y'all recommend?
3 years ago, we paid $32K for a 2014 Yukon XL Denali in pristine condition, 76K miles. Mrs. Cusser needed its 6.2 liter engine to tow her horse trailer. In Phoenix AZ, even though when brand new the SUVs cost more than pickup trucks, it seems as used vehicles that the SUVs are less than trucks. And she didn't want a truck.
Based on the replies it seems that if I'm looking at a 2020 LT going for $39,500 with 80k miles on it that's not that unheard of? One thing about CarMax is they detail a vehicle quite well before it hits the line. In fact, while going through financing it goes through a top to bottom before out the door. As I believe I mentioned above, my wife and I have purchased used vehicles from there several times. We didn't want new vehicles because we didn't want to bet our hard-earned money on something that wasn't already tried and true in mountainous country with torrential rain at one point and some heavy snowfall at another. One mistake my wife made that I had to forgive her over I wasn't going to get any nookie, was when she insisted on trading in her Subaru Forester, which were up there is a highly sought-after vehicle, for a Chrysler Pacifica. My apologies for swearing in the group. Lol. I'm a Chevy guy. She's an, "Oh, whatever..." she looks at and it looks pretty gal. No sooner had she done that when the summer torrential rains came through and turn the mountainside into free-flowing mud. She had a mudslide come down in front of her and completely gut the undercarriage of the Chrysler. I insisted that she go to an Equinox. She still has it.
I have looked at the Suburban with the 6.2L engine but I don't have a trailer to haul. I already live in the mountains and for me to get a trailer now to take the kids camping would be kind of silly. So, a 5.3L and shorter frame Tahoe is perfectly fine for me. If I haven't mentioned, I live near Big Bear lake, california. Right about now our ski resorts are opening up. With that said, I failed to understand the people up here that actually have fully equipped trailers to go camping. I don't understand. If you already live in the mountains where people come to go camping why would you have a trailer to go camping somewhere else? Some people like it.
I came across what appears to be a good deal on a 2019 LS model. I don't need all the features of a premiere. I need a truck that runs that I can switch into 4x4 mode to drive through some mud or snow. That's what I found and I invite your opinions. One key feature it does not have is the sunroof and I don't want a sunroof!
Price looks good. We got our Suburban because of having grandkids. These trucks are great for when you have family. With the base model you shouldn't have to worry too much about wear and tear items or malfunctions. Good luck!
