Hey guys, anyone have a mirror problem yet? I am currently in the process of replacing my mirror motor on my drivers side. Part Number # 15874997, $62.00

The day I noticed it not working correctly, I would unlock the truck with my remote and if you have the system set up to your configurations, like seat adjustments and mirrors, you will notice everything moving, but my mirror was not. You can hear the motors turning, but not moving. I foundit was easy to replace your mirror motor instead of replacing the whole mirror.

Unfortunately GM made the mirror motor design from a basic design, in other words, it will fail eventually. I will take some pics and post, when I get the time, on the steps of removal and install.

Currently trying to buy a Mitchell collison book to look up part numbers. Sometimes I hate going to dealers and they tell you that you have to buy a whole assembly rather than the actual part you need. Having this book will give you numbers you need to order parts from a dealer or aftermarket. I hate waiting on them as much as they hate waiting on me.

GM Nav Disc 3.0, recently got oneand installed with no problems. I still have my Disc 1.1.

I tried plotting a street today and could not get the NAV to give me the correct street name. Tried everything. I popped the 1.1 back in to see if it would do the same and it did. Do not know if it is that particular street or what. Popped the 3.0 back in and got my trusty Garmin CS550 out and plotted the same city and street and it had the correct street listing and address and the proper waypoint.

Your guess is good as mine, cheesy NAV? I hardly use it, but when I need to use it like today,it can't find the street. Thats probably why some people buy aftermarkets.

This is a shot in the dark but try folding the mirrors in and out three times. (if you have power fold mirrors)

I finished the install of the new mirror motor for the drivers side. I wanted to share this, but it is probably no big deal. Nice to know. Here is the pic of the part.

The previous pic shows the part and white arrows. The mirror slides onto four slots (What the white arrows are pointing at, two shown on the last pic) and semi-lock in place. This pic shows what it looks like installed on the vehicle with the cover off

The last pic showed you the four slots, now here is where they are when you are trying to pry it off. A small flat blade screwdriver will do the job. I have only one of the top clipsshowing and one of the bottom clips showing. You have to move the mirror around to certain angles to pry it off, do not damage the mirror mounting on the mirror itself. You want to be able to remount the mirror and have it still lock in place with the new mirror motor mounting disc.

Once the mirror is off, you have four screws that secure the mirror motor. Remove those and disconnect wires and yhou done with removal. Installation is reverse.

I decided to take it apart to see the inside and to find out why my mirrors were not moving. The mirror motor mount disc snaps off, but you have to unlock or pry the four parts of the gimble arms that connect the mounting disc. If you look at the second picture, It shows how the systems remembers you mirror positions. The gimble arms have small metal contacts that touch a circuit board as the motor is running for it to find home position. The third are the gimble arms themselves, just greased up plastic.

And now the reason why my mirror motor failed on my driver's side.The torque limiting step down gears as shown in this picture. These gears move freely in either direction. They have a friction disc or maybe a clutch in between them and it allows you to move the mirros manually without tearing up the worm gears. I found the motors were still good but the gears were slipping. Thats not to say the motors don't go bad. If you look closely the 12V modeling motors they used for our 40K plus vehicle. Price of the new mirror motor (actuator) was 62.00 dollars. Price of a new mirror assembly 328.00 dollars. On ebay 50-80 dollars, depending on the mirror assembly. If you take the motor housing apart for some odd reason, then ensure you do not damage those metal contacts on the gimble arms. They are about a mm wide and there are a set of four littleone mm fingers. I only took this apart to see what was wrong.
