Default Expert Help Needed: Quirky Electrical Issue

1994 GMC Suburban
5.7, all the bells and whistles

Here's a doosy for ya. I turn on my headlights. Most of the time I get the headlights. Sometimes I don't, or there's a lag before they come on. Most of the time I do not get the taillights. Sometimes I do. When I do, the interior dash lights dim as expected. When I don't get the taillights, the interior dash lights do not dim when the headlights come on. So, most of the time I get the headlights, but not the taillights. Sometimes there's a random time lag (seconds, or minutes) for the taillights. The cold makes the problem much worse. No idea where the issue is, but I figured someone who knows the switches, relays, and wiring diagram intimately may be able to help.

I love her, she's a beauty. I now drive her 130 miles a day. 152k miles on the odometer. So strong. So fun to drive.

May or may not be pertinent information: Mice made a home out of her for three years, so I suspect that to be somehow contributing to the problem.

One of these diagrams might help, I hope.

Yeah, rodents can really tear things up given the time. Might get you a good barn cat or two.

headlight switch in the dash (that you use to turn the headlight on) is going out. i just replaced mine in my 94 a couple months ago for pretty much the same thing.my dash lights wouldnt light up so i just delt with that not knowing i didnt have running lights either till my son said something. replaced the switch and replaced the dash bulbs as its only a few screws away anyway once you get the bezel off
