Default Extended Warranty for 07 Tahoe - What & When to Buy?

We've had a 2007 Tahoe LTZ since June 16th; 2500 miles on her so far. My question is about extended warranties:

1) When to buy? Should I get one now, while the car is new, or should I wait until we're a few more miles down the road? I've read that we should do it before 12,000 miles.

2) What to buy? I'm confused as to what to get, because of what we have so far (3yr 36,000 & 5yr 100,000 powertrain). The bottom line is that as the car ages in the late years of ownership (years 4 onward), I don't want to pay anything for anything that could be covered by a warranty, BUT I don't want to overbuy and get covereage that we have with the existing warranties.

Thanks for any replies; this forum is a MUST for serious Tahoe owners.

I believe it should be done before 10k miles. I went with Warranty Direct Luxury care package. It is a bumper to bumper deal that includes the navigation, dvd etc. It wasn't the cheapest, being around $2,000 fora 7yr 100k mile, but looking at the bills for service on the warranty work i've had done already within 10k miles, it seems like the best bet.

I recommend contacting Ken Fitchner at Fitchner Chevrolet in MT.
He's generally associated with corvetteforum, but he sells GM extended warantees at great discount for all models.
There are other recommendations on corvetteforum.com

Also make sure the company is one that will be around for 7 years or 100K miles.

Default RE: Extended Warranty for 07 Tahoe - What & When to Buy?

1) When to buy? - Buying before the 12 month or 12,000 mile mark does save you money. However, with GMPP you are overlapping coverage of your existing factory warranty. Leave it to GM to nail this down to a science.I have seen several forums discuss when to buy from 10,000 miles to 36,000 miles; it all comes down to a personal choice. When do you want to shell out the cash for the protection, now or later? The price of a GMPP goes up as you reach factory warranty expiration. However, you have less overlapping coverage.

2) What to buy? - GMPP Major Guard is most like your factory coverage. The term and mileage option depends on your driving and owning habits. How many miles do you typically drive per year? How long do you plan on keeping this Tahoe?
