Default Flapper missing/Check Engine/Tighten Gas Cap on.

My 07 Tahoe recently had the check engine light come on. A couple days after that, the TIGHTEN GAS CAP message on in the DIC. I checked the gas cap and couldn't find anything wrong with it, but, to be on the safe side, I bought a new cap. Light stayed on. Yesterday, while I was refueling, I noticed the flapper in the gas filler neck was gone. I can say, with all certainty, there WAS one there before.

Can this be the cause of these alerts?

It is possible. It could be triggering a "leak" notification, thus the reason the cap light is coming on. I encourage you to consult with a certified technician for further assistance.

Please keep us posted.
