If your headlight switch is in the AUTO position and your headlights are off,by pushing the fog light switch itturns on your fogs and headlights. Then, when you shut the car off, the fogs and headlights turn off because the switch is still in AUTO.

Actually on mine, when you push the fog button and the switch is in Auto and it is not dark out, only the fogs and parking lights turn on (plus the tail lights as well).

Pushing the fog light button while the headlight switch is in the AUTO position and your headlights are off (too bright out), turns on the fogs and parking lights while keeping the driving lights on. And when you turn the car off, everything turns off automatically.
So maybe this isn’t a new trick. In my last truck (Tundra), you had to turn the lights on for the fogs to come on.
At least I know that there's nothing hinky with my Tahoe's lights...
Of course with a relay and a couple of resistors, you could set your truck up so that when you turn on the fogs, the headlights come on automatically (or vice-versa). ;-)
