i have a 2002 silverado z71 with the 4 button auto4 dash switch. i had the truck on the lift and was checking some things and noticed that while the truck was in 2wd the front driveshaft was spinning but the front tires were not. it will cycle through 4hi and 4lo just like it should. is it normal for the front driveshaft to spin while in 2wd?

 

First, this is the Suburban/Tahoe forum. Second, there is usually some drag friction in the transfer case that causes the front driveshaft to turn in 2WD. This is not uncommon. Since the connection between the driveshaft and the front axle appears to be disconnected it should not be a problem.

 

not sure about the auto track; non auto trac, the shaft does not spin at all on the road in 2wd, not sure on the hoist

 

Yep, even the old stuff (80's ect) spin with no load
