1996 Chevy Tahoe

Any tips or tricks on getting the fuel filter out of the plastic bracket that is mounted to the frame? I was finally able to remove the severely rusted bolts after using PB Blast. However I can't get the bracket to come off from the lines. (I believe the bracket is hooked to brake lines)

Any advice would be much appreciated. I realize this should be a quick and relatively easy job.

 

Welcome to the Tahoe forum. Not familiar w/ the '96 but someone here might be.

 

If my faulty memory serves me right I think filter should just slide out of the clamp after you loosen the bolts just move the fuel line out of the way on one side.

Any truth to that ideas that you should not use FRAM , only AC Delco Filter?

probably not but I have always made it a practice to use original parts esp for maintenace since the AC/Delco parts are typically about the same price as the Fram or Purilator.
Keep in mind that the reason Pepboys or Auto Zone or who ever carry the Fram or Purilator or other brands isbecasue they are cheaper for them to get.
That and at bestyour not spending more then a couple of dollars to get the AC/Delco as opposed to the other brand. You repalce a fuel filter what maybe 1x a year more likely 1x every 2-3 years so whats a couple of more dollars for the factory recommended parts.

 

I haven't heard good things about Fram filters FWIW.

 

1x a year? I have a 1995 tahoe w/the FACTORY fuel filter baby lol...

I wouldn't mind replacing it as that may help me gain some MPG...

I assume its the can looking thing along the drivers side frame rail, inside, with the fuel lines going to / from it

the fuel filter in my Sea-Doo PWC is removeable and washable... I'm gonna assume the car one isnt...

I wonder how nasty it is after 212,000 miles of use?

Replacing the one on my Jeep requires the removal of the gas tank, as the pump and filter are one stupid unit, directly above it... ya know unless u want to saws-all the body

but since its WINTER and freezing outside, I'm gonna wait till summer for this...
