Fuel pump noise

Noticed a high pitched/high pressurewhine/whirring soundfrom the fuel pump "area" (near drivers rear tire/fuel tank area) a couple of weeks ago and now it appears that it is not an intermitten noise. It has not stopped since. Makes it only when engine is actually running. I've done the turn-the-key-to-the-on position and it does not make the sound. It has not created any problems, but I'm pretty sure it's not really normal... All other indicators are normal with no problems.Anyone care give advice? This is the first I have done to start addressing the issue. Thanks for any input.

for a noise gauge - if i'm sitting in the truck, parked, runningwith the windows up,I can't hear it butif I roll the window down, it's the first thing I notice. I would equate it to someone under the truck in that scenario with a dewalt cordless drill just holding the trigger, only a higher pitched whirl.
btw- I'm an aircraft mech so I'm up to speed on preventative maintenance.
I'mwondering if this is some type of high pressure fuel pump for the gas monster it's trying to feed...
it just sounds like a high pressure feeding noise.

When I bought my 99 suburban to me it just sounded like an after market high flow pump like my dad used on many cars used at the track. About 2 years later my wife drove the truck and it wouldn't start. eventually we found that the pump was just on it's last leg for 2 years i was surprised it lasted that long but it was an easy fix and my brother can no longer here me 3 blocks before I get to his house.
