Fuel regulator or fule pump?
I originally postedthe "engine turns forever before firing" my problems were not tune up related, they seemed to be fuel system related. In the string one guy chimed in and recommended to take a fuel pressure reading at the intake. I did but upon turning off the ignition it would drop back down to 0. I conducted the same test on my friend’s Tahoe and his held pressure at 55 psifor a good while after turning off the ignition.
A mechanic friend told me it was the fuel pump and that check valve is bad and was the reason why the line wouldn't remain pressurized. This was all couple months ago and now thetruck wontfire up; it turns but doesn't fire up. I'm sort ofgetting that it's one of the two but would like to trouble shoot so that I don’tspend chips on something that's not broken. To rule out or pin point the fuel pump I'm going to disconnect the fuel line at the filter and plug in my gage and if I get faulty reading from there that should be a clear indictor that it's the pump and not the regulator, right?
Any sound suggestions are welcomed, thanks

I have the same problem. I took mine to the dealer, they first told me everything was fine and it was because I had the remote start. Ipretty muchtold him where he could put that comment and told them to find the problem and fix it.
They replaced the fuel pump and it worked good (not great) for about a week then back to long starts. I have not taken it back yet, but I will let you know what they say.

You have a bad fuel pump. The pump is supposed to hold pressure. Be prepared, it's a pricey fix. I don't know what vehicle it is or the year but I'd say around $800. Tank has to be dropped. Make sure to use a OEM part, cheap generic ones will break. Don't run the vehicle low on fuel. The fuel keeps the pump cool and it'll eithermalfunction from age or running the fuel low constantly.
If the fire won't light at all then it is more than likely the pump, a faulty regulator will normally just cause a lazy start and drivability issues.
To check the regulator unplug the vacuum hose and check for fuel dripping out of the hose or regulator.

Thanks Z,
I found out it's the fuel pump, I disconnected the fuel line at the filter and put the gage to it, turned the key you can hear the pump turn on, pressure shotto as far up as 60lbs., but would drop back down to zero. The line wouldn't hold pressure. If I gave my vin could the dealer could they tell me which model fuel pump I need? I called the A/C Delco parts place and there's like three different model fuel pumps, the guy also told me there may be a tag on the outside the tank that would render the part number but I didn't see it.
