G80 Rear differential spider gears 96 GMC Suburban K1500
96 GMC suburban 194,000 miles, automatic.
Noticed rear end noise, opened the differential and spider gears are torn up, after research the spider gears can not be replaced in the G80 differential
Would it be possible to find an open differential carrier from a junkyard and swap it easily
Planning on swapping the existing ring gear, shims and possibly bearings and races
Would the existing shims still be in spec with the new carrier?
Anybody with experience with this Is there a better route to take?
Thanks in advance

Torn up gears means metal has gotten into the pinion bearings also. At your mileage might just be easier swapping in another complete JY rear end.
G80's are not tough enough for heavy duty usage.
Everything would have to be reshimmed due to mfgr. tolerance differences with any changes anyway.
