gas cap & check engine light problems...

There certainly is a code that says check gas cap. We're dealing with this and our 2015 chevy malibu. The dealer pulled the code, smoke tested the system(pretty sure the dealer knows how to use a smoke machine) and tested the cap. Everything tests out fine, but the stupid light is still on. Driving me bonkers.
Dodge and ford have a light that comes on the dash...the related code that sets does not mean the gas cap is at fault....only the vehicle has seen a refueling event, performs a large leak test and the test has failed. putting a new gas cap on without testing is a shot in the dark.
