Default Gas Mileage on 07-08 Tahoe

I have been researching a lot on this issue and found a lot of information on this and other sites that "may" work, but I was wondering if there was someone who modified something to their 07-08 Tahoe that significantly changed their Gas Mileage for the better? I have an 07 with Flex Fuel & 4CYL mode, and am only getting 17.2 MPG combined with A LOT of babying to the throttle. Also I installed a K&N in the stock box and it did not make a major change to my MPG.

What are my options? Exhaust, Computer Programmer, Cold Air Intake, all of the above?

Welcome to the forum.

I've found that by not driving, I use no gas.

Seriously tho, if you're getting 17+ combined, then that's damn good. Is that off the DIC or hand calculated?

As you found by dropping a bundle on a K&N, that there's no way to get better mpg. If there was, don't you think GM would do it? Of course if you're a member of the "Big Oil bought the carmakers off" crowd, then it doesn't matter.

Face it, you're moving a large, almost three ton block of steel. Takes a lot of energy to do that.

You are doing real good with 17.2 mpg. I have a 2007 and get 12.9 all the time. Do not waste money on other stuff like the K&N it will not help.

Yeah I know it is a heavy beast, but I just think it could do better. I stopped babying it and now it is showing 16.4 mpg. That is off of what the instrument panel is telling me.

16.4 is decent it's about what I get and like you about 17 something if I hypermile .lowering your driving speed will really help speeds under 45 mph get best mpg

Best mileage I ever got was coming back from the lake in the '07 and I forgot to take out of 4HI. 150 mi @70-75 and got 21, no tail wind either. No apparent damage either.

This beast will get 20-23 on the road @ 55. But who wants to go that slow? People keep giving you half of a piece sign or telling you that you're #1.

we get 14 - 15.5 mpg all city, 17 combined and 20 pretty easy all highway based on hand calculations. the DIC usually is about .5mpg high city and about right on for highway.
2wd 3.42 gears and a K&N drop filter - mainly to reduce trash by reusing it. I have used the same one for 100k+ miles in my Acura and it is good as new after cleaning every 20k miles.
