Usually I get a little less than the DIC says, once a got a little more. I may call Chevrolet 1-800 number today to talk to them about it. I was mostly concerned that it never runs inV4 mode and I thought there might be something wrong with the vehicle. But it sounds like maybe not compared to other responses. If Chevrolet can add any info I'll let everyone know.

The folks running 4:10 gears seems to spend more time in V4 mode. It supposedly puts the 5.3 in the optimum RPM range or sweet spot for V4 mode. It sounds from many forums, yours is operating "normally". Certainly not what most expected to happen.

I hate to say... "My Dealer Said..." blah-blah-blah.. We were on the fence 5.3 vs 4.8 for her new baby carrier.... The dealer told us that the wife would get better MPGs in the 4800 since we did not tow & drive in FL only. Never even tried to sell us on the 4/8 & Flex fuel. We cant buy corn in our local town - I would have ran out of flex fuel coming home from buying it...
We get 15.9 city & 17/19 hwy /20s... That is what the DIC says, but she has yet to do the math and see if the computer is correct..

The tahoe weighs 5000+ lbs and uses a V8, so gas mileage is going to suck. I knew this going in so I cant b!tch about it too much. I can only hope that a future diesel will be produced down the road.

My DICis about 0.5-1.0 mpg higher than the math.
Don't forget that the EPA figures are going to drop considerably for 2008 MY.

DIC = Driver Information Center ie, computer generated mpg vs doing it the old fashioned way by dividing miles traveled since last fill by gallons put in tank.
