Just wondering what gas mileage people are getting with and without towing. I have a 1996 4x4 suburban with a 454 and a 4l80e trans with about 145,000. I am currently getting 11mpg highway and approximately 5.25 mpg while towing an 07 Malibu. Needless to say im a little disappointed in the gas mileage. While i don’t expect it to be great i figured it would be around 8-9. Any ideas to help increase the mileage? I do not have any mods at this point. Would an intake help?

Its a 454, it's going to suck up gas.
Start with inflating the tires to speck
Changing the plugs and wires
and air filter.
Maybe that will pit you at 8-9?

Consider a tune up and a K&N air filter. I had a 1990 K3500 with the TBI 454 in it. I was able to make it to the 13-14mpg range while travelling light, and dropped to 8mpg pulling 6 horses in a trailer.

I drove a burban with a 454 and got 9 without towing. Like others have said here make sure you have to proper inflation (Remember when weight is added you need to compensate with adding air in your tires). Good Luck
